“Mastery in Trial A Trial Advocacy

Course By Harry Karanja, DTM

INTRODUCTION

How well do you communicate your client’s legal position in court?

The success of your case depends in large part on how well you communicate – during court mentions and hearings. The effects of a poor trial presentation can be lasting and expensive for your client.

On the other hand, good trial advocates tend to secure their client’s interest however weak their case is, and everyone benefits from the best possible legal representation.

BENEFITS

This is where the Mastery in Trial Class can help. Over 4 weeks, this class will transform you into a confident, well-articulated trial advocate who can communicate effectively in oral submissions, examination of witnesses, arguing of applications, and any other court session that requires persuasive trial advocacy.

The Mastery in Trial Class focuses on imparting trial advocacy skills for court representations. This in turn fosters growth of confidence among the participants. Participants will learn to:

  • Draft and argue high quality oral applications
  • Persuasively present or impeach evidence during trial
  • Effectively present favourable analysis of legal issues in submissions
  • Demonstrate confidence when addressing the court

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The Mastery in Presentation Trial Class maximizes learning opportunities for participants through a learn-by-doing approach. To achieve maximum contact with participants and promote synergy, cohorts are limited to a maximum of 8 participants. In each session, participants make presentations to their co-participants. The presentations are prepared in-between classes and participants are encouraged to use actual work situations to draft the presentations. In addition, pre-work shall prepare each participant for the sessions

  • Video Conference Training: Recorded training videos using learn-by-doing approach
  • Online Resources: Pre-work will be shared online and assignments will be through our legal management system, Zamu
  • One-on-One Coaching: One on one coaching in-between classes in person and through phone

COURSEWORK

The course takes place over 4 weeks with a 1-hour joint video conferencing session where participants get to learn:

  • Organization: Preparing well organized and persuasive applications and submissions with little notice

  • Persuasion: Arguing legal positions effectively
